OrbitDesk
Bringing complex workflows into one connected workspace.
OrbitDesk is a fictional business operations platform concept designed to bring team workflows, reporting, and business information into one organized workspace. This case study explores the sample concept and design approach.
A Project Built Around a Clear Purpose.
The concept began with a common operational challenge: information and workflows can become difficult to manage when they are spread across separate tools. The fictional business wanted to explore how a centralized platform could help teams organize everyday work and access important operational information.
Softlogs was engaged to conceptualize the platform, design the user experience, and define the technical architecture for this business operations tool.
Project Facts
It Started With an Ambition.
The fictional business wanted to explore how a centralized platform could help teams organize everyday work and access important operational information. They aimed to replace disconnected tools with a single workspace that could adapt to different team needs while keeping data secure and organized.
The goal was to design a system that was powerful enough to handle complex data but simple enough for everyday use. No direct client quotes were invented for this sample. Instead, this section demonstrates how Softlogs communicates the client's goals in neutral, narrative language when a direct quote is not available or approved.
What Needed to Change?
The concept began with a common operational challenge: information and workflows can become difficult to manage when they are spread across separate tools.
Disconnected Workflows
Teams had to switch between multiple applications to complete a single task, causing friction and delays.
Limited Visibility
Important business information was siloed, making it difficult to get a clear overview of operations.
Inefficient Processes
Manual workarounds were used to connect different systems, leading to inefficiencies and errors.
Before We Built, We Listened.
The sample discovery process focuses on understanding the team's workflow, identifying key user roles, and defining which information should be available in the main workspace.
Understanding the client's needs, goals, and requirements.
Identifying the target audience and mapping user journeys.
Defining core functionality and prioritizing features.
Evaluating technology options and defining project scope.
From First Conversation to Final Delivery.
Understanding the Needs
Softlogs worked to understand the client's goals, the needs of different user roles, and the operational challenges the platform needed to solve.
Defining the Scope
The project scope, features, priorities, and technical direction were defined. This included deciding on the core modules for the first version of the platform.
Creating the Experience
The structure, user experience, interface, and visual direction were created. This phase focused on making complex data easy to navigate.
Building the Platform
The agreed functionality, integrations, and supporting systems were built. This included setting up the database and developing the frontend interface.
Reviewing the Implementation
The implementation was reviewed, functionality was checked, and identified issues were resolved to ensure the platform worked as intended.
Preparing for Handover
The agreed deliverables were prepared, and handover, launch, or deployment was completed. For this sample, the concept was finalized for presentation.
Turning the Plan Into a Working Product.
A fictional dashboard concept bringing together task management, reporting, workflow status, and team information into one interface. The solution was designed to be modular, allowing the business to add functionality over time.
Centralized Dashboard
A main dashboard providing an overview of key business metrics, task statuses, and important updates.
Workflow Management
Tools to create, assign, and track tasks, ensuring teams could see what needed to be done and when.
Reporting System
A reporting module to generate insights from the data, helping the business make informed decisions.
The Technology Behind the Experience.
The sample technology stack chosen for this concept includes modern, scalable tools suitable for a SaaS application.
What Came to Life.
The sample concept demonstrates how a business operations platform could organize key information and workflows within one interface. The final deliverable was a comprehensive design and technical plan for the OrbitDesk platform.
No invented metrics: No performance data, user counts, or revenue increases are claimed for this sample project. The outcome focuses on the concrete deliverable: a structured, conceptual platform ready for development.
A Project Is Also a Relationship.
Working with Softlogs helped us organize our ideas and see what was possible. The process was structured, and the final concept gave us a clear direction for the platform.
