A Checkout Teardown: Where E-commerce Orders Get Lost

When an e-commerce store underperforms, the checkout gets the blame. But by the time a buyer reaches payment, most of the damage is already done.
The usual suspects: unclear delivery costs that only appear at the last step, forced account creation, and forms that ask for more than the order actually needs.
Then there’s confidence. Buyers abandon when they can’t see return policies, payment options, or a support path at the moment they’re asked to trust you with a card number.
Fix the leaks in order: show costs early, reduce required fields, and put reassurance where hesitation happens. Small, boring changes move the most orders.
